Back to the present - first day of preschool

Nolan's first day at his new preschool (Karly's former preschool) was yesterday.  No tears were shed, so overall I'd call it a success.  I ended up taking both kids to school since Marco wanted to go in to work early.  This actually worked out well, because I think it was a helpful distraction for Nolan having Karly around.  They were both fairly cooperative and we managed to get out the door on time with everyone fed, dressed, brushed, lunches and backpacks packed, etc.  We dropped Karly off first, right on time, and then this put us to his school about 15 minutes early.  By this point he was kicking the seat and having a minor tantrum saying he didn't want to go to school.  Playground to the rescue!  Since we were early, we were able to spend that time at the playground and this completely changed his mood so he was in a much better frame of mind by the time we headed in.  Said a quick good-bye in his classroom and then I left.  He looked like he was briefly thinking about crying, but he did ok and pretty quickly I could tell he got distracted checking out everything going on around him.  I stayed for the parent coffee and got to chat with an old playgroup friend.  The director (love her!) saw me and went out of her way to let me know how he was doing and to reassure me that he was fine and they would call if there were any problems.  For me, while I adored his teachers last year, this school has a much smaller, personal feel which I really like compared to where he was last year.  It's nice to be back here, but it was very surreal and bittersweet going in there and realizing how much the kids have grown up.  It was so strange to not be taking Karly there and carrying Nolan in his infant seat :(

Anyway, when I picked him up he was happy and sounded like he had a great day.  I know I did - been looking forward to those few hours to myself all summer long!  And yes, pictures will be forthcoming....
