Nolan's strange Easter illness

And so we can mark off yet another holiday with someone here sick!  As a certain wise man once commented on this blog, "The Vallejo's and the holidays are a volatile mix."  True dat.

So Nolan started complaining of his stomach hurting around 4:30 pm on Friday.  He was practically begging to go to bed, and the kid who is usually still doing flips on the bed at 9 pm was asleep by 7:30 pm.

He looked kind of like this for most of the day Saturday,

even falling asleep for a couple hours on the bathroom floor, although he did rally some energy to play outside a bit in the afternoon. Throughout the day he was still complaining of stomach pains, but then would want to eat, so he pretty much ate normally.  Right after he got out of the bath that evening he threw up.  He went to bed but woke up about an hour later complaining of stomach pain again.  This went on for several hours of him dozing off and then waking up in pain.  He then started telling me he wanted to go to the doctor.  It just did not seem like a normal stomach virus and I started getting very concerned that maybe it was his appendix, so we headed to the Healthplex ER around 11 pm.

They checked him out and did bloodwork and ran an I.V..  Around 2 am they transferred us to Fairfax hospital so they could do further testing (x-rays and sonogram).  For some reason, by the time we got to Fairfax, he was doing a lot better and was not in pain anymore.  Thankfully all the tests came back normal (said maybe constipation, but I really don't thinks so) and we finally got home at 5 am.

The next day he was slightly better, but still very lethargic and fell asleep for a couple hours in the afternoon again.  Today he was a little more improved, but still didn't have much energy - lots of laying around on the floor.  He's still having occasional stomach pains, but not as much or as bad.  All I can figure at this point is that it is just some sort of strange virus?

  1. Yikes! Poor little guy. Glad it's nothing serious, but what a strange bug.
