So I just realized that Nolan thinks Hershey Park is Horsey Park. I thought he was just calling it that because they have a horsey ride (merry-go-round) there, but it just hit me that he thinks that is actually what we're saying when we say "hershey park".
We had a great trip there last weekend. Marco, Francesca, Jasmine and I left our house at noon on Friday. We picked up the rest of the kids from their respective schools, first Natasha, then Karly, and finally Nolan and then we were on the road by 1 pm. The trip went pretty quickly and we only had to stop once on the side of the highway for a potty break for the two little ones.
We arrived at our hotel around 4 pm and were very happy with it - clean, new, and modern-looking. The kids couldn't wait to get to the indoor pool. They had a great time swimming and then we went back to our rooms to change for dinner. I had seen a sign for Perkins, which I thought might be good. After driving farther than we thought, and stopping twice to ask for directions, we finally found it in the middle of a big truck stop rest area, right off of I-81. After all that, it didn't look too inviting, so we headed back to the hotel and just ate at the family diner next door to the hotel. It was fair.
We were all in bed with the lights out by 8 pm, optimistically thinking the kids would go to sleep and then we could get up and watch tv or read or something. Yeah right. Karly probably did fall asleep by 8:30 or so, but Nolan didn't pass out til 9:30 pm, so it ended up that was it for our night.
In the morning we ate the free "breakfast" at the hotel. Not too impressive, but at least it was easy. We drove about 15 minutes to Hershey Park and got there around 9:15 am. The rides weren't supposed to start til 10:00, but many of them were already going by the time we got in. We walked straight to the back and spent the first hour convinced we were the only people at the park! It was so nice - we walked right on to every ride with no lines anywhere. As the day went on, it did become more crowded, but for the most part we didn't have to wait too long for anything.
We did the chocolate factory tour in the afternoon and then headed back to the park for the last hour or so before it closed. The weather was beautiful and sunny. I think all the kids had their little "moments" at one point or another, but overall everyone had a great time. I guess we left the park a little after 6, stopped for some McDonalds for dinner, and the kids were all asleep by 8:30 pm. We got home around 9:30 pm.
