Each morning we would get up and eat breakfast at the house (cereal, bagels, etc.) and then get everyone into bathing suits and lathered with sunscreen. It was usually around 10 or 11 by the time we got everyone out the door and then everyone chipped in to carry chairs, umbrellas, cooler, drinks, toys, towels, boogie boards, and most importantly the volleyball net, out to the beach, and to set everything up. We ended up spending pretty much the entire day on the beach each day we were there. We had sandwiches, lots of go-gurts, and other fruit and snacks for lunch on the beach. We got some decent vb games in, and the kids had a lots of fun playing in the sand and water and were pretty thoroughly exhausted by the end of the week. The weather was great - pretty hot Monday and Tuesday, but that was good because I actually got all the way into the ocean! The water was cold, like "take your breath away cold", but the air was hot enough that it felt good!
On Monday there were a few other volleyball players around to play with the four of us, which was fun. In the late afternoon we headed back to the house, got everyone cleaned up, and made tacos for dinner. That night there was a free outdoor movie on the beach right in front of our house, so we were pretty psyched to be able to head back out for that after dinner. They were showing Despicable Me, which we had never seen. The kids both really liked it (and I enjoyed it too). Nolan was giggling throughout much of the movie.
On Tuesday, there were two teenage girls we knew who offered to babysit the kids for us, so we got to have an adult dinner out! We made spaghetti for the kids and then headed off to Rehoboth. Had the most amazing fresh fish seafood dinner - sooo yummy!
Wednesday was a great day at the beach - not quite as hot and the waves were pretty calm. Karly had a lot of fun that day trying to body surf. We ordered Grotto pizza for dinner and then headed back out to the beach after dinner because there was supposed to be a bonfire and marshmallow roasting. We were all extremely disappointed when it didn't take place, and for no apparent reason. On the plus side, the weather was perfect and we had our most enjoyable round of vb games that evening, playing without the heat of the day. The kids had a great time too, running around on the beach in the evening and they all ended up in the water with bathing suits on again.
On Thursday it was like we were at a different beach - cooler, windy, and the surf was very rough. We watched the lifeguard assist 3 people out of the water in just the couple hours we spent on the beach that day. We were glad we hadn't tried to play vb that day as it was too windy. We got back to the house, showered and packed up and were out by 2 pm. The kids and I went to Rehoboth to eat a late lunch at Nicola's - couldn't leave without eating a Nic-o-boli! I had thought about doing Funland, but the kids were so burnt out by that point that we just headed out. We made it to Salisbury around 5:30 pm.

Nolan in particular was soo happy to go to Salisbury. He practically flew out of the car as soon as it stopped and started running for the backyard. As he was going I heard him exclaim, "I LOVE this place!" Priceless! As usual he had great fun riding the tractor and playing in the yard. They both had lots of fun swimming in the neighbor's pool, and I had fun hanging fresh laundry on the outdoor clothesline (seriously).
Other random Nolan quote for the weekend... As we were driving home the sun was getting in his eyes and interfering with his DVD watching He was very annoyed and indignantly proclaimed, "The sun is staring at me, and it's not letting me see the tv!"
